Rosapenna Golf Club

Consisting of two impressive championship links Ireland golf courses (Old Tom Morris Links & Sandy Hill Links) Rosapenna Golf Club has been welcoming visiting golfers since the 19th century having originally been pin pointed as an ideal links golf location by Old Tom Morris of St Andrews.

After Old Tom 3 more golfing greats have added their stamp to the Rosapenna Old Tom Morris course, Open Championship winners Harry Vardon and James Braid and eminent Irish golf course architect Pat Ruddy.

Mr Ruddy went on to design the 2nd 18 hole links course at Rosapenna Golf Club called the Sandy Hills which was structured with championship Ireland golf courses in mind and since its opening in 2003 has been met with wide acclaim and has steadily made its way up the rankings of Ireland golf courses in the top golf publications worldwide.

A stunning modern links that funnels its way through centuries-old dunes created by and still whipped by the winds coming in off the Atlantic Ocean. A must play links course for serious golf enthusiasts. Perhaps the best praise that can be given Sandy Hills is that there is not one weak hole on the course. In fact I would venture to say that there is not even one average hole on the course. With the Atlantic winds blowing, Sandy Hills simply offers a test of golf at its purest and toughest.

Played Rosapenna Golf Club as a group of 8 golfers on a weekend in May. Despite some of the most brutally tough weather I have ever played in, the golfing experience was second to none. Old Tom Morris was the easier of the two courses, but still a stern test in its own right. Sandy Hills is a real epic, crafted naturally through the abundant dunes with multiple elevation changes, there are no boring holes, no straight forward shots. Rosapenna Sandy Hills at Rosapenna Golf Club is a real tough test of golf but remains fun rather than torturous, even for golfers with handicaps ranging from 9 to 26 as in our group. Many of us commented that it was the best course we have ever played (including places such as Celtic Manor 2010, St Mellion, Killarney where we have been before). I would endorse that view entirely.
